Dr. Prateek Bhatnagar, the best cardiac surgeon in India, operated a 68-year-old gentleman from Bengal, who had been refused coronary bypass surgery by leading cardiac centers across India, due to the high-risk nature of his condition. The patient had a critically low pumping of heart (left ventricular ejection fraction) of just 22%, indicating severely compromised heart function. In addition, he had a partially leaking mitral valve with a 100% blocked left anterior descending (LAD) artery. A large OM branch of the left circumflex (LCx) artery had already been given 4 stents and a drug-eluting balloon (DEB). He also had a permanent pacemaker in his heart. All stents had failed & patient could not even walk a few steps.
With very little hope left, the patient and his family found their way to us through their own efforts. Despite the complexity and high risk of the case, Dr. Prateek Bhatnagar decided to go ahead with surgery due to his large experience of handling high risk surgeries. Last week, Dr. Bhatnagar and his team successfully performed triple bypass surgery upon him. The patient recovered remarkably well and was discharged in good condition. Now, he is able to walk for 15 minutes at a stretch without any discomfort —an outcome that seemed impossible just days before. This surgery was successful as Dr. Prateek Bhatnagar is doing almost 100% coronary bypass surgeries on beating heart (without open heart surgery). This reduces the risk in surgery.
